Why not become an Youth Ambassador<\/strong>!<\/h3>\n

You will learn about food and farming and then assist at events like K-Days and Farmfair International by talking to visitors about what you\u2019ve learned.<\/p>\n

Youth Ambassadors are selected and trained youth, 12 – 17 years old, who help Northlands connect people to agriculture including food and farming. Not only do they learn unique aspects of agriculture, but also earn a few dollars as well!<\/p>\n

What if I don\u2019t know anything about agriculture?<\/strong><\/em>
Not to worry \u2013 we\u2019ll teach you! When selected to be an Ag Ambassador, you will go on field trips, take classes and visit farms with the other Ag Ambassadors. You will also learn from staff on the Northlands Agriculture team including our agriculture specialist who was a beekeeper!<\/p>\n

What do I have to do?<\/strong><\/em>
When an event happens, you sign up for shifts. On shift, you\u2019re like an agriculture guide. You chat with visitors about food and farming; you ask them questions, point things out and even give them a tour!<\/p>\n

I\u2019m confused! Will I be staff or a volunteer?<\/strong><\/em>
Technically, you\u2019re a volunteer; however, because you do learning outside of your volunteer shifts, you will be paid an honorarium!<\/p>\n

How much time and commitment does it take?<\/strong><\/em>
During events such as K-Days (late July) and Farmfair International (early November), these are busy times where you will get lots of shifts. At other times throughout the year, Ag Ambassadors may meet once a month for a field trip or a learning lab!<\/p>\n

What\u2019s good about being an ag ambassador?<\/strong><\/em>
Not only do you get work experience, but also you will experience firsthand the sights, sounds and smells of agriculture like visiting an alpaca farm or learning how to milk a cow. You will also make friends \u2013 Northlands current Ag Ambassadors are a great group of youth who have developed great friendships. On top of it all, you will earn some extra pocket money!<\/p>\n
