This is Rico\u2019s second consecutive Canadian Derby championship following last year\u2019s victory on Broadway Empire.<\/p>\n<p>Trainer Robertino Diodoro and owners Fouad El Kardy, Bob Butz and Rick Running Rabbit watched as Edison, from several of same connections as last year\u2019s winner Broadway Empire, delighted fans by winning the Canadian Derby with 5-2 odds. Coming in second place was Remembertobreathe ridden by Ryan Pacheco and trained by Sylvea Gregory and in third place was Private Money Game ridden by Damario Bynoe and trained by Linda Kropius.<\/p>\n<p>Below are the results from the three stakes races run on today\u2019s card:<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 44th running of the City of Edmonton Distaff<\/strong><br \/>\nHorse: Tempered Sapphire<br \/>\nJockey: Rico Walcott<br \/>\nTrainer: Rod Cone<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Northlands Marathon leg one<\/strong><br \/>\nHorse: Short Memo<br \/>\nJockey: Rico Walcott<br \/>\nTrainer: Robertino Diodoro<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 53rd running of the Westerner Stakes<\/strong><br \/>\nHorse: Killin Me Smalls<br \/>\nJockey: Ruben Lara<br \/>\nTrainer: Ernie Keller<\/p>\n<p>The last six editions of the Canadian Derby have broken the $1-million dollar wagering mark.
