Edmonton, AB: The sure sign that summer has arrived in Edmonton (even if the weather disagreed) K-Days opened the gates to the 140th annual summertime celebration today.

Hundreds of thousands of guests are expected to take in the largest event in the city during ten days packed with entertainment for the whole family.

K-Days kicked off with its annual K-Days Parade, which wound its way through the streets of downtown Edmonton. A number of local businesses and community groups were awarded prizes for their outstanding entries:

Tim Hortons North Stage features a wide range of amazing entertainment including daily hypnotist and magic shows. On the first Friday night of K-Days, the Tim Hortons North Stage goes quiet for the Silent Disco Headphone Party at 8 p.m.

With 50 rides for thrill seekers of all ages, the K-Days Midway features a combination of adult and kiddie rides, games and food. The featured ride this year is the brand new Star Dancer. Manufactured by world leading ride manufacturer Technical Park of Melara, Italy, the state-of-the-art ride features an extensive light package and high ride capacity of 16 seats per ride. With multiple spinning features and reaching heights of over 70’ tall, the Star Dancer is anticipated to be a ride fan favourite.

K-Days is proud to present, free with admission, Toytopia, an interactive walk-thru exhibit where K-Days guests can explore the history of toy making and see examples of the world’s most iconic toys. From legendary arcade games of the 70’s and 80’s to early 1900’s metal toys to the world’s largest Etch-A-Sketch, this exhibit has something for every member of the family.

Pandora’s Boxes, the Feature Show of the 2019 event, features the iconic President’s Choice Superdogs as well as a cast of acrobats and entertainers in a show that marries the magic of Superdogs with the awe-inspiring thrills of premier acrobatics. (Shows three times daily 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.).

K-Days is very excited to welcome Pink Fong and the Baby Shark Show to the 2019 event. Whether or not you have a child in your life or not, there’s no doubt that Baby Shark has made the big leagues, the catchy kids song blew up across kids’ album charts and transcended to mainstream album charts, including the groundbreaking entry into the Billboard Hot 100. Not only did the infectious bop about a family of toothy fish make it onto the chart, it also scored the highest debut of the January 12 edition of the Hot 100, making a splash at number 32! (Shows three times daily 1 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.). NOTE: On Sunday, July 21, the 1 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. shows will not take place to accommodate the Baby Shark Guinness World Record attempt on the Tim Hortons North Stage at 2:30 p.m.

Brand new to K-Days is the Edmonton Mini Maker Faire. Located in Hall F of the Edmonton EXPO, Mini Maker Faire is a partnership between Northlands and the Edmonton Public Library, TELUS World of Science, Skills Alberta Canada, Edmonton New Technology Society and Vignettes Showcase Inc. The Edmonton Mini Maker Faire is a place for the Do-It-Yourself Community to come together, share their work with one another and support their fellow makers.

K-Days is very proud to welcome Prairie Pine Emporium to the 2019 event. Located in Hall G of the EXPO Centre, this shop local area features a variety of goods, from vintage treasures, to local food products, to creations from crafters, makers and artisans.

Young fairgoers are the focus of Kids Town, a place for kids to explore, learn and play. Located inside Hall B in the EXPO Centre, the programming includes Little Rays Reptile Display, the Milk and Cookies Shack, the Cutest Show on Earth, Party King’s inflatable toys and more! All of this will appear alongside this year’s kids show, Pink Fong and the character Meet-and-Greets featuring the Backyardigans.

Back by popular demand, Makers Exhibition showcases and celebrates local makers, creators, artists and producers of all ages!

The heart of the fair for 140 years, Explore Agriculture is back again to provide K-Days guests to learn about and experience animals and farming. Featuring hands on activities and a variety of animal shows including goats, rabbits and fancy birds and our Milking Demonstration will be back again! New for 2019 we are thrilled to introduce Cow Cuddling, where fair guests can pet and interact with Northlands Highland Cows. Located in Hall A of the EXPO Centre.

One of the feature exhibits of the 2019 event is CN 100: A Moving Celebration, a container village celebrating the people, history and future of CN.

This immersive exhibit tells the history of CN as well as the people and innovations that built North America. Families can enjoy interactive experiences, shows and many activities for children, all included with gate admission.
