The 2020 recipient of the $1,000 bursary from the Sheep Producers of North Central Alberta Education Foundation and Northlands is Claudia Turuk of Leslieville.
Claudia is currently in her second year at the University of Alberta, specializing in Immunology and Infection as part of her Bachelor of Science degree program. She grew up on a small sheep farm by Leslieville that has grown into a 175-ewe Charollais x Dorset operation. Her family farm also raises and trains Sarplaninacs (Illyrian Shepherd Dog), a livestock guardian dog.
Claudia learned about sickness and disease from her mother, who is an animal health technician, and this got her interested in immunology and infection. After taking the Green Certificate Program (Sheep Production) in high school, Claudia knew her career path would be animal and agricultural-based.
Congratulations Claudia!
