It’s all yours at this year’s K-Days including even more gold, glory and old-fashion garments
EDMONTON, AB – Northlands, Tourism Yukon, Air North, Yukon’s Airline, along with 790 CFCW are proud to bring you Klondike Park – your 19th century oasis for Klondike themed entertainment including the Chilkoot Gold Mine, Klondike Mike and the Klondike Express! With a little skill, patience and luck, you can walk away a winner at the Gold Panning Competition and the Klondike Costume Contest. Including a chance to win a round-trip for four to the Yukon and the opportunity to win over $1,000 dollars in real Yukon gold nuggets, Klondike Park is your destination for striking it really rich at K-Days.
“We recognize that tradition plays a huge role in the K-Days experience for many Edmontonians and as much as the fair is about new and exciting programming, it’s also about having the chance to recreate cherished memories,” says Sharilee Fossum, Acting President & CEO, Northlands. “We’re thrilled to have Klondike Park serve as Edmonton’s destination to relive the rush of uncovering gold, riding the Klondike Express and discovering the source of Canada’s rich history.”
The Klondike was built on the dreams of those searching the North for those almost invisible glints of glory and at the Gold Panning Competition in the Chilkoot Gold Mine, you will have the chance to replicate their incredible experience. Northlands and Tourism Yukon are giving 50 potential prospectors per day from July 25-27 the chance to reign as King or Queen of the Klondike. The victorious gold miner will not only walk away with bragging rights, but a real Klondike gold nugget to serve as a shiny symbol of your prospecting success!
Would you rather search your wardrobe than the gold pan for your chance to win? Northlands and Tourism Yukon are pleased to bring you the Klondike Costume Contest on July 27! Bust out your bonnets, bloomers and bow-ties because on the last day of K-Days, guests are encouraged to don their best 19th century costuming for another chance to nab another gold nugget! Saloon dancers, prospectors or even steam punkers can visit the Yukon booth inside Klondike Park from noon – 9 p.m. on July 27 to get your photo taken to enter!
“Tourism Yukon and Air North, Yukon’s Airline are excited about this opportunity to partner with K-days to celebrate the spirit of the Klondike – a spirit which is still very much alive and well in the Yukon today,” says Denny Kobayashi, Senior Manager, Tourism Yukon. “Visitors to Klondike Park will find a whirlwind of activity in the Yukon’s tent including Yukon Can Can dancers, a Klondike-period themed photo booth, special Air North packages to the Yukon and the chance to win over $1,000 in Klondike gold nuggets or a trip for four to visit Dawson City in the Heart of the Yukon’s Klondike.”
Klondike Day is back on the last day of K-Days, July 27, and will include special entertainment and prizing to encourage our guests to travel back in time to the gold rush! The first 1,000 guests through the gates on July 27 will receive a special edition Klondike Mike gold coin to commemorate the merging of past and present fairs.
