Two Northlands volunteers recognized for 55 years of service to the organization

EDMONTON, AB –Northlands is pleased to celebrate National Volunteer Week by honouring Northlands’ nearly 1,200 volunteers for their contributions to the Northlands’ community at Volunteer Appreciation Night, an Oscar-themed gala at the Edmonton EXPO Centre on April 14. Among those being recognized, Northlands is proud to shine the spotlight on two 55-year pin recipients, Dale Cole and Ross McBain.

“The success of our annual events relies on the dedication of our Northlands volunteer team,” said Tim Reid, President and CEO, Northlands. “Volunteers from age 10-90 selflessly donate their time to us and tonight’s event is just a small token of our appreciation for the work they do year round,” said Reid. “Not many organizations can boast that they have volunteers with 55-years of service, but Dale Cole and Ross McBain are shining examples of community service.”

Dale Cole became a Northlands volunteer in 1959 and has served in roles ranging from Dairy Cattle Committee, arrival ambassador, information booth attendant and 4-H Day volunteer. In 1981, Dale was elected to the Northlands Board of Directors where he eventually served as the President of the Board. Now a retired dairy cattle farmer and member of the Northlands Board of Governors, Dale has been a fixture at Northlands and our events for more than 55 years.

Ross McBain is being recognized for his valued 55 years of service which includes time spent as President of the Northlands Board of Directors and member of the Board of Governors. Born in Edmonton in 1924, Ross McBain opened the first of nine eventual McBain Cameras in 1949. He became a Northlands volunteer in 1957, starting in the role of Agricultural Chairman and was instrumental in developing the events now known as Farmfair International and the Northlands Farm and Ranch Show.
