K-Days to include 10-day Pow wow
EDMONTON, AB – Northlands is proud of its relationship with First Nations. As it is situated on traditional territory of Treaty Six it is important to ensure the story of the First Nations peoples are shared with all. It is because of this connection Northlands is honored to include a traditional Pow Wow during K-Days from July 22 – 31, 2016.
“I am honored to welcome all First Nations with the first K-Days traditional Pow Wow,” said Tim Reid, President & CEO of Northlands. “I would like to thank Grand Chief Alexis and Elders of Treaty Six on behalf of Northlands, for providing us with assistance and advising on proper protocols so that we could embrace Indigenous culture at K-Days this year.”
The traditional Pow Wow will host members from First Nation communities within Treaty 6 and across Canada.
“I hope this celebration will be the first of many to provide reconciliation opportunities between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Edmonton is home to Canada’s second largest urban Aboriginal population and events of this caliber honour our people,” said Treaty 6 Grand Chief Tony Alexis. “The addition of a traditional Pow Wow to the K-Days events and activities will help highlight our rich and unique heritage.”
Northlands and the Confederacy of Treaty No. 6 continue to work together to finalize program and event details and are enthusiastic about sharing this experience with K-Days visitors.
