EDMONTON, AB – In May 2016, we witnessed one of the most dramatic evacuations in our nations’ history and forever cemented the relationship between the cities of Edmonton and Fort McMurray.
Many watched the news coverage of nearly 90,000 residents of Fort McMurray evacuate with a moment’s notice. “Our contributions don’t end at our gates, we proudly serve Edmonton and Northern Alberta and this was an opportunity to welcome our neighbours in their biggest time of need,” said Tim Reid, President and CEO of Northlands. “Our staff and volunteers did an amazing job welcoming our guests during that time – I couldn’t be more proud of our organization.”
We are proud to announce the following individuals and groups will lead this year’s #AlbertaStrong themed K-Days parade.
Melissa Blake, Mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo; Don Iveson, Mayor of the City of Edmonton; representatives of the first responders from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo led by Fire Chief Darby Allen and our very own Edmonton Fire Department led by Fire Chief Ken Block.
This parade truly represents the strength behind #AlbertaStrong.
