Free weekend event welcomes community to venue one last time
EDMONTON, AB – Northlands invites the public to a free Farewell Weekend at Northlands Coliseum from December 15-17.
Unique programming will be offered each day including a charity hockey game between the Spruce Grove Saints and the Okotoks Oilers, public skates on the Northlands Coliseum ice and a Multicultural Round Dance presented by Candora Society.
December 15 – Spruce Grove Saints vs. Okotoks Oilers
Doors 6 p.m., Game 7 p.m.
Ryan Smyth’s Spruce Grove Saints will face off against the Okotoks Oilers in a free charity hockey game to kick off the weekend. 630 CHED Santas Anonymous, the Kinette Club of Spruce Grove and the Kinsmen Club of Stony Plain will accept cash and toy donations onsite and will receive all revenue from parking ($5 charge). Additionally, a 50/50 draw will be held to benefit Parkland Kidsport.
All individuals who attend will receive one (1) ballot for a chance to win authentic Northlands Coliseum seats signed by Ryan Smyth. This is a free ticketed event in partnership with Ticketmaster. Free tickets can be accessed through northlands.com/northlands-coliseum-farewell-weekend.
December 16 – Pancake Breakfast, Public Skates & Open House
Skate from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
A free pancake breakfast will take place inside Northlands Coliseum from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to start the day. The breakfast is open to the public and can be accessed from the North East entrance. Parking will be free at Northlands Coliseum.
Time slots for public skates are available in 45-minute intervals each hour, on the hour. A maximum of 100 skaters will be allowed on the ice at one time. Individuals who wish to skate are required to register in advance through northlands.com/northlands-coliseum-farewell-weekend.
The public is welcome to enter Northlands Coliseum and access the concourse and seating areas to enjoy the building while the public skates are taking place.
December 17 – Multicultural Round Dance
Doors 3 p.m., Round dance begins 4 p.m.
Treaty Six will gather for a Multicultural Round Dance presented by Candora Society. This event will celebrate the Northlands Coliseum history as a gathering space for community. Local Indigenous artisans will have handcrafted items available for purchase. Anyone is welcome to attend, and this event does not require a ticket. Parking will be free at Northlands Coliseum.
Northlands Coliseum has a rich history in Edmonton and has been a gathering space for events since its opening in 1974. The doors will be closing at the end of December, and this is a final opportunity for the public to attend events in this historic venue.
