EDMONTON, AB – The Jockey Club of Canada has released the finalists for the 2013 Sovereign Awards. Northlands congratulates all nominees including Northlands Park Jockeys Amie Pooli and Rico Walcott.
Nominated for the 2013 Sovereign Award for Outstanding Apprentice, Amie Pooli has been racing full-time at Northlands Park since 2012. With 801 career starts and 119 first place finishes, Amie Pooli is quickly becoming one of Northlands Park’s brightest Apprentice Jockeys. At 24 years old, Amie has already earned a total purse of $1,426,122. Nominated for the 2013 Sovereign Award for Outstanding Jockey, Rico Walcott has been racing at Northlands Park since 2007. As the reigning 2013 Canadian Derby champion, Rico has earned a total purse of $8,983,941 with 3,328 starts and 650 first place finishes to his name.
Since 1975, The Sovereign Awards have been hosted annually by the Jockey Club of Canada to recognize the best horses, breeders, owners, trainers and jockeys in Canadian thoroughbred racing. The 39th annual Sovereign Awards will take place on April 11, 2014 at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto. Founded in 1973, the Jockey Club of Canada was formed to oversee standards and ensure top quality thoroughbred racing in Canada.
